Yingling-Ridgely VFW Post 7472 is a community organization serving veterans in Columbia and the surrounding communities. The Howard County Historical Society Museum, which occupies the stone structure that was formerly Ellicot Mills Quaker School, is dedicated to preserving the history of the county and of the Ellicot family. The museum is managed by the volunteer-run Howard County Historical Society. Admission is free, and the museum is open Friday and Saturday afternoons. It features artifacts and mementoes from five generations of the Ellicot family, tracing the early development of the community. The museum was established in 1988.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #40 is located just off the main drag in Ellicott City. The group's mission is to improve and elevate the character of man. Originating in the 17th century in England, the Order made its way to the states when it was started up again in New York and Baltimore.
