Social Capital Inc. of Woburn seeks to connect citizens and strengthen the community through "civic engagement initiatives." The organization provides residents with information on upcoming events, community guides and ways to get involved in the community. SCI Woburn also sponsors a Holiday House tour every December.
The Woburn Council of Social Concern is located just off of Main Street. This organization is dedicated to helping people develop better community relationships. It helps families find childcare and education. In addition, it houses a food pantry which can be visited by arranging an appointment. The Council of Social Concern also hosts special events to raise money, including the Annual Holiday Food Basket Project. This location provides assistance to more than 3,000 people a year. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
The Portuguese American Recreation Club is located in a large house on Main Street. It is a private club that fosters community for Woburn's growing Portuguese and Brazilian citizens. It also rents space to local groups not associated with the club.
The Woburn Historical Society is a community group that preserves and promotes the city's history through programs and events. The group was formed in 2006 and moved into its new home, the Burdett Mansion, in July 2010.
The Woburn Moose Lodge is a branch of the Loyal Order of Moose. The organization has 2,000 lodges based around the world. The local lodge offers a wide range of services and opportunities for the community including holiday events, hall rentals and sporting events.
The lodge puts on special Thanksgiving dinners and holds meetings, classes and special breakfasts. The hall can be rented for all types of occasions.
This local lodge of the state-wide organization is located in a huge white house with a giant parking lot, just off of Lexington Street. This organization brings together Woburn's large Italian population, helps educate the local community about Italian culture and heritage and performs many charitable and philanthropic acts.
It is especially active in retirement homes and orphanages, along with charitable walks and runs. This location holds meetings every third Wednesday at 7pm.
Massachusetts Family Institute is a non-profit public policy group dedicated to strengthening the family and affirming Judeo-Christian values. It is proactive regarding a variety of issues such as protecting children from abuse, preserving marriage between a man and a woman and educating children regarding the risks of STDs.
Community Substance Abuse Centers provide pharmacological treatments and services for patients in Woburn and the surrounding communities. The center offers out-patient services for individuals with drug and alcohol related problems. Additional services include HIV counseling and testing and family support.
The VFW is an organization made up of veterans of the military that served overseas. It specializes in helping out fellow veterans and their families in need within the community. The VFW members can host special events and parties upon reservation. To be eligible to join the VFW, one must have received a medal for overseas service, have served between 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea, or received hostile fire pay.
Title I Dissemination Project is a non-profit agency that specializes in analyzes educational innovations for educators, title 1 directors and parents. Its services include coordinating workshops, publishing guides and investigating new products.
The George A. Campbell American Legion Post 101 is a meeting place for veterans. It hosts a meeting on the first Monday of every month and many other special events, including holiday celebrations and other fund-raising parties. The hall is available for rent.
