Hampshire Foundation was created in 2000 to allow three families to give back to their country of origin, Peru. The foundation encourages systemic change to improve the quality of life for individuals living in rural areas of Peru. The Foundation has evolved ; earlier projects were funded primarily through US-based development organizations, such as CARE and Pan American Development Foundation ; today we fund a number of Peruvian non-governmental organizations ( NGOs ) directly and have outlined specific programmatic themes to guide our funding decisions. The broad experience gained over the past seven years of funding projects in Peru has lead us to create the Peru Opportunity Fund, an initiative within Hampshire Foundation. Our mission continues to be focused: to fund organizations and people who provide solutions leading to sustainable economic growth within Perus rural communities.
