The Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization is an interfaith coalition of area congregations. It is dedicated to social justice and revitalization. It serves for the identification, education and community engagement of various social issues, including healthcare, environmental justice, immigration, homelessness and housing.
Californians for Justice is a local human rights youth group that works with students and young people to empower low-income families, LGBT communities and minority communities. Its primary focus is educational policy reform for minority students. The group also provides leadership development seminars for high schools and community colleges.
Comprehensive Child Development is an organization that was established in 1983 to provide early childhood education services at low prices for income-eligible families. The organization is funded by grants and donations and has three locations in Long Beach. The Hill Street Child Development Center operating at this location provides part- and full-day care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers from six months to kindergarten age.
The AIDS Food Store was founded in the mid-1980s by the Christ Chapel Long Beach; its aim is to combat hunger and offer relief to the HIV/AIDS disabilities-afflicted and affected community. Clients are referred by social services and governmental agencies and require a confirmation from a doctor, as well as an income of $1,500 a month or less. Groceries are designated on the second and fourth Saturday of the month.
Cultural Alliance Long Beach is a local organization dedicated to supporting working artists of all ages and in all disciplines in Long Beach. It connects artists with the public through innovative collaborations, dialogues, promotions and education. The alliance offers exhibit space, work space, resources and workshops and is continually expanding its offerings.
Love in the Mirror is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children with essential items in order to improve their lives. Donations of necessities are always welcome, including such items as food, non-perishable items, clothing, personal hygiene products, learning materials, art supplies, blankets, towels and sleeping bags; a detailed list can be found on the website. In addition to soliciting donations, Love in the Mirror encourages supporters to start their own drives and events in order to collect money and/or needed items.
