Baker Beach is popular for its wildlife, rare plants and proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge. Sun-seekers can also find space to relax on this this mile-long beach, though finding sun in notoriously foggy San Francisco is another matter.

Public parking and transportation at Baker Beach
There are only a few small parking lots near Baker Beach, so finding a parking spot might be difficult. For visitors who do snag one, though, parking is free. The beach is located in the Presidio, which a number of the city's MUNI buses serve, including routes 28, 29 and 43. The PresidiGo shuttle also takes visitors all around the Presidio for free.

Best and worst time to go to Baker Beach
Mornings in San Francisco often mean cold and fog, and this beach is no exception, even in the summer. Going later in the day will help alleviate those concerns. Bright, sunny weekends mean a number of visitors to Baker Beach but there are usually less people here on weekdays than weekends.

Admission to Baker Beach
It's free to visit Baker Beach.

Must see/do at Baker Beach
Visitors interested in plant life should spend some time checking out flowers and plants around the beach. Baker Beach has an abundance of serpentine rocks which make the area's soil perfect for rare plants like the Marin Dwarf Flax. Those interested in a picnic with a view can head to the cypress grove near the parking lot to find picnic tables and grills.

Other places to visit near Baker Beach
Baker Beach is near many of the city's other landmarks and attractions. The most obvious, the Golden Gate Bridge, is within quick driving distance. There's also nearby Golden Gate Park, which offers multiple lakes, the California Academy of Sciences, and the Japanese Tea Garden.

Insider tip for visitors to Baker Beach
Whether or not they wish to take part, visitors should know that nude sunbathers often congregate near the north end of the beach.
