Florida Atlantic University is a public, four-year coeducational doctoral degree-granting university serving the southeast coast of Florida. It was established by the Florida State Legislature in 1961 as the fifth university in the state system. The university s colleges include the College of Architecture, Urban & Public Affairs, the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters, the College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Engineering and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. It offers academic programs in accounting, actuarial science, American literature, civil engineering, computer art, electrical engineering, geology, graphic design and elementary education. Its library holdings include more than 1 million volumes, microforms and subscriptions to over 2,000 print and nearly 8,000 electronic journals. Florida Atlantic University is located in Davie, Fla., and is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States.
