Low-income motorists, or those on unemployment, can receive up to $500 in free state-funded emission-system repairs here. (Applications to the subsidy program must be made in person at a state bureau of automotive repairs office in South San Francisco or San Jose; they are processed while you wait.) It offers regular smog inspection, test-only smog inspection, DMV-required renewal vehicles and gross polluters vehicles. At G8, you could also test for smog and not repair.
