In 1996 Dr. Bob Wachter coined the term "hospitalist" in the New England Journal of Medicine. Subsequently, the National Association of Inpatient Physicians ( NAIP ) was founded, followed by the commencement of NAIPs first annual meeting in 1998. NAIP changed its name to the Society of Hospital Medicine ( SHM ) in 2003. Six Senses Clay Studio is a ceramics studio with both indoor and outdoor space that has classes for beginners in ceramic arts, as well as open studio space for veteran artists. Tools and equipment are provided, as are electric, smoke, gas and raku firings. Teachers and instructors are on hand to offer advice and support. In addition to clay, drawing, paper-making and print-making equipment also are available. Art supplies, including clays, glazes and tools, are available for purchase. Six Senses is home to the NW Clay Guild, which is composed of professional and semi-professional ceramics artists. Guild members are given 24-hour access to the studio.

Delaware County SPCA is looking for volunteer candidates to go out to schools, juvenile detention centers, pre-schools, Girl Scouts meetings, camps, living facilities, etc. in Delaware County to educate children and adults on issues surrounding animal welfare, animal safety and our mission. We are looking for people who have a dynamic personality who will engage listeners on lesson plans and lectures and serve as a positive supporter of Delaware County SPCA. You must be able to provide your own transportation and be comfortable around animals. You will be interviewed for this position. Delaware County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in 1911 originally for the purpose of providing watering troughs for work horses throughout the county. But as the needs of the county grew for housing and caring for homeless animals, Delaware County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) evolved to serve the ever changing needs of the growing community. Today Delaware County SPCA is an "Open Admission" facility, which means we take in all animals, and are not breed specific. We serve all 49 municipalities in the county. Over 8, 000 animals pass through each year. The dedicated staff, volunteers, and board members are committed to the health and welfare of these animals. Delaware County SPCA is a 501c3 non-profit, charitable organization registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State. We are not affiliated with any local, state or federal agency or any other SPCA or humane group. Our work is supported almost entirely by private donations. We work hard to place all adoptable animals. In many cases this means providing extra medical care, grooming, rehabilitation and socialization to give the dogs and cats every chance of being adopted. In addition to caring for animals at the SPCA, we provide other services in our community such as animal rescue service, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. We also work constantly to promote responsible pet ownership and combat animal overpopulation through low cost spay/neuter programs, community programs, disseminating printed information, publicity and special events like Spay Day USA.

Danube Swabian Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity was formed in 1958 by ethnic-German immigrants from current day Hungary, Romania, and the former Yugoslavia. Ethnic Germas were sent by Queen Maria Theresia of the Austrian Hungarian Empire to work in these lands during the 1700s. This part of Europr was often referred to as "Europes Bread Basket", and Germans, primarily those from the "Schwaben" section of Germany ( near Stuttgart and Ulm ) were asked to relocate, as they were skilled farmers. After World War II, these nations became satellite nations of the U.S.S.R. and the ethnic Germans ( the Donaushwaben or Danube Swabians ) were forcibly relocated, losing all property and rights within their former homelands. As a result, many Donaushwabens found their way to the United States and Canada, where 156 clubs now exist. They serve local population as a center for culture, sport and social clubs. Chester County Art Association is a non-profit, cultural organization that promotes participation in the arts through quality instruction, exhibitions and community outreach. CCAA believes that art does make a difference and has enhanced the community by involving people of all ages and aspirations in the arts since 1931. CCAA was founded in 1931 by several prominent artists and community leaders including William Palmer Lear ( 1908-1970 ) and N.C. Wyeth ( 1882-1945 ), both renowned illustrators, and Christian Brinton ( 1870-1942 ), an internationally-known art critic and early promoter of Modernist art movement. The original group met weekly to sketch and plan exhibits, many of them featuring the works of the young Andrew Wyeth as well as that of other soon-to-be celebrated artists such as Horace Pippin, Tom Bostelle, Barclay Rubincam, Philip Jamison, Peter Sculpthorpe and Harry Dunn. In those early years, their hope for a permanent home of the arts in Chester County had several incarnations. Members met initially in private homes including the DeHaven House, which was rented from the West Chester School District until 1947 when a high school fire necessitated its use for school administration. For several years the homeless CCAA held its exhibitions at West Chester University. Finally, in the early 1950s, a local resident, Mary E. Page Allinson, came to the rescue and donated more than an acre of land on the edge of West Chester. It was here that the present art center was built in 1953. A subsequent gift from another resident, WW Chick Laird, expanded the property to a total of five acres. Bequests from Stewart Huston and Alison Farmer Wescott enabled the addition of a second gallery as well as several spacious studios in 1974. In the 75 years since its founding, CCAA has retained its mission as a community-minded organization but has grown tremendously to include an astonishing range of activities and ArtReach programs. These include popular summer day camp; a satellite facility known as the Exton Square Studio and an ever expanding curriculum of classes for adults and children alike, with vital scholarships provided for children who are most in need. Chester County Art Association receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
