One of the last small-town theaters in the San Francisco East Bay, Chabot Cinema is a single-screen venue located at the heart of Castro Valley Boulevard. The theater also may be rented for events or private screenings for groups.
This impressive 250-seat theater is owned and run by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, as are the beautifully kept Japanese Gardens and the Hayward Senior Center next door. The theater runs a full season of community theater every year, as well as three concerts by its own community chorus. It rents props and costumes from its 8,000-item stock to local schools and community groups. Volunteers are welcomed for all aspects of production. Partly because of the adjacent senior center, there is great disabled access with lots of designated parking. The woodsy and scenic setting is at the confluence of Castro Valley and San Lorenzo creeks. Vehicle access is via North 3rd St. (off A Street); there's also a pedestrian bridge over Castro Valley Creek from Centennial Hall in Hayward.
Castro Village Bowl is a bowling alley located on Village Drive in Castro Valley. In addition to bowling, the alley has a cocktail lounge, snack bar and league play for bowlers of all ages. Castro Village Bowl also plays host to bowling birthday parties. Be sure to call for more information.
The Castro Valley Center for the Arts is located off Redwood Road about a quarter mile from Castro Valley Boulevard next to the local high school. The foundation provides high quality production entertainment that enriches and inspires everyone from elementary school children to the elderly. Live performances from comedians, ballet dancers, high school actors, drama professionals and many others entertain here for the community to make a positive impact.
Golden Tee Golfland is home to miniature golf courses that are fun for the entire family. In addition to mini golf, Golden Tee also has arcade games and a prize counter for children to enjoy. The Adobe Art Gallery showcases local artist in an intimate, small setting. It is located inside the Adobe Art Center Park. Simply follow the driveway next to the park all the way to the end, and the building will be on your right. Go to the office behind the gallery and ask them to let you in.
