Hand in Hand has been is business since 1991 and was originally located in the Cambridge/Boston area, moving to Marblehead in 2005. When you first walk into Hand In Hand you are asked to leave your shoes at the doorway and this moment of foot freedom is the first step into complete relaxation. The music that greets you as you enter and the low lit environment immediately calms the senses and invites you into a mind, body and spirit experience. 

The owners, Monique Illona and Blane Allen, have a unique perspective on what constitutes health and see their work as a lifestyle, not just a profession. They gently encourage their clients to improve their lives with a mind, body and soul approach. They have found that many ailments and pains come from imbalance of the three and understand that the path to balance and healthy living is a step-by-step process. Hand in Hand's goal is to utilize personalized and professional therapeutic massage and bodywork to help the client find balance and health. 

Illona and Allen are professionally trained in deep tissue, deep relaxation, therapeutic & injury work, sports,post-surgery work and healthy breast massage in addition to mastectomy massage, hot stone, pre and post pregnancy, couples, four-hands, asian bodywork and Craniosacral. They are State Licensed and Nationally Certified. They have studied and taught around the globe and constantly seek new skills, taking advanced classes to best serve their clients needs. 

It is worth noting that Hand in Hand is a Green Business and is a member of the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce; Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals; and the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia, winning the 2008, 2009 & 2010 Reader's Choice Awards.

For over 25 years Barbara Ferro has been practicing Eastern Medicine. She graduated with a Masters Degree from New England School of Acupuncture in Newton, where she was later a professor for 15 years. She is a nationally certified acupuncturist and licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Medicine. Holistic Health is not just a business for Ferro, but a chosen life path. Besides being a licensed acupuncturist, she is a Reiki Master, a reflexologist and a tuning fork sound healer. Her degrees include a bachelor's in nursing, and she is a licensed registered nurse. She also has a masters in education/counseling and worked as a psychotherapist at a Melrose hospital. Ferro is also a retired vocational education instructor in medical occupations. She studied in China and was granted a Visiting Professorship at the Zhejiang College of Medicine in Hanzhou, China. She is a published textbook author.

The Holistic Health services are used to balance the mind, body and spirit, assisting people with issues such as pain, stress management, infertility, addiction and relieving patients from side effects of chemotherapy, to name a few issues than can be addressed. Methods used are Chinese, Japanese and Korean style acupuncture utilizing many modalities including electrical stimulation, infrared heat therapy, chi machine (sound healing) and Tui Na (Chinese physical therapy). Ferro has a colleague, Stephanie Savasta, a licensed acupuncturist who adds Tong Ren healing. The office is located in the rear of the building and patients are seen by appointment only.
