South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, also known as RWA, is a nonprofit public corporation. The corporation owns more than 26,000 acres of land and provides a range of recreational opportunities and water-related services. Through its Whitney Water Center, the company offers hands-on water science programs for over 16,000 students annually. South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority supplies nearly 55 million gallons of water per day to a population of approximately 400,000 people. It draws water from a series of reservoirs, as well as pumps water from well fields. The corporation offers a water protection program that focuses on watershed management and aquifer protection to maintain the quality of drinking water sources. It distributes treated water through a network of pipes, pumping stations and storage tanks. The corporation collects and tests water samples in a state-certified laboratory.
