AIDS Center of Queens County, founded in 1986, is one of the largest community-based, nonprofit organizations in Queens County, N.Y. dedicated solely to serving people living with HIV and AIDS and educating community about the disease. The organization s volunteers conduct educational outreach services through formal presentations, prevention workshops, in-service training, street outreach and distribution of education materials. It offers prevention case management, scattered site housing, couples and family therapy, on-site HIV counseling and testing services, peer education training, individual therapy, psychiatric assessments and medication management to adults and adolescents, as well as housing placement assistance and independent living skills training programs. The organization s provides legal consultation on a wide range of legal matters, including permanency planning, entitlements, landlord and tenant issues, debt management, family law, immigration, discrimination and insurance. AIDS Center of Queens County is headquartered in Rego Park and has offices in Jamaica, Far Rockaway and Long Island City, N.Y.
