Michael s Finer Meats and Seafoods began in 1962 as a part-time job for its founder, Michael Bloch, son of a Chicago meatpacking superintendent. His father regularly sent him shipments of selected cuts of meat. Michael picked them up at a trucking terminal in Columbus and delivered them by car to fine chefs all around the city. Michael soon left his regular job with a paper company and in 1966 bought The Union Meat Company and renamed it. The company is a full-line meat, seafood and specialty foods company. Michael s also offers gift-box and retail sales programs for consumers who want to enjoy restaurant-quality dining at home. Its 2,200-square-foot seafood-processing line has been added adjacent to the company s meat-processing plant. Michael s also has a 2,700-gallon tank system that holds more than a ton of live lobsters. Michael s Finer Meats and Seafoods is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
