Founded in 1983, Velodyne Acoustics was built on the vision of eliminating distortion from loudspeakers. Using complex devices for motion measurement, the company developed a high-grain servo feedback system to measure and control the movement of large bass drivers. The resulting Ultra-Low Distortion series of servo-controlled subwoofers was hailed as a breakthrough comparable in significance to that of Dolby Laboratories noise reduction technologies. This patented technology reduced distortion in speakers from the 15-30 percent standard of the time to a level lower than one percent at 105 decibels. The company s latest speakers combine digital technical innovations with the close-tolerance manufacturing procedures Velodyne has used since 1983.
