Linda Haraldson-Roy was a Silicon Valley marketing professional before she decided to get her cosmetology license and go into business for herself. The Merle Norman line specializes in 35-plus women's beauty and skincare needs (there is a small line for men as well) with heavy emphasis on treatment and prevention, and is moderately priced. The studio is in a tree-shaded vintage cottage on the south side of Castro Valley Boulevard, with good natural light for trying the skincare and makeup -- a cozy and welcome change from harsh lighting in the mall. Linda's no-pressure demeanor make her shop a treat.
