History of the Company It all started in 1977 when Daryl and his Father bought an old Radiator Repair shop from a retiring gentleman for $1, 600.00 Daryl worked for four years under his Father who also added Automotive A/C repair. Daryl ventured out on his Own in 1981 and purchased an old run down service station from another retiring gentleman. The original business was called Daryls Mobil. After a few months the business name was changed to Daryls Radiator Center. Services added then were engine repair, brakes and many of the under car items still being performed today. The business was booming until the street was closed in 1986 for an entire summer, cutting off the access to the parking lot. Things were not easy with interest rates hovering around 18% and bills needed to be paid. The only real source of income was the Radiator work that could be carried in to the building by foot. When the street reopened, Daryl added custom exhaust work to the business and changed the name to Daryls Exhaust and Radiator. The business operated well for about 8 years under this name. Slowly, the radiator market was failing and the smoke was beginning to bother Daryls Lungs. So the Radiator business was closed and the Exhaust business was running better than ever. The business was re named Muffler Plus and the building was remodeled. In 1998, Daryl and Char designed and built the new building at the same location after tearing down the Muffler shop and two houses on the same corner. The new business is now called Hometown Motors and offers everything from an oil change to pre owned auto sales. Hometown Motors is now a well established business employing seven people and is a generous contributor to Charities in the Owatonna area. Hometown Motors is a member of the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce and is well known and respected in the City of Owatonna and surrounding communities.
