He was born in Shelbyville, IN in 1885. He graduated from Purdue University School of Agriculture in 1911. In 1914 he came to Vero Beach on a business trip and decided to stay and work for Indian River Farms Company. He married and had four children.Over the years he became a prominent civic leader and was instrumental in furthering the citrus, cattle, and tourism industries in Indian River County.Other familiar and famous Waldo Sexton developments include the Driftwood Inn; Ocean Grill; and McKee Botanical Garden (formerly McKee Jungle Garden ). Anecdotal stories of Waldos life are many, and attempts have been made to capture and define the personality of the man.
