First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, also known as FUMCSM, has come a long way since moving into a hardware store at Oregon Avenueand 5th Street about 135 years ago. At the time, it was the only and first church of any denomination. In 1952, itfound its enormous locationwhere it now resides.Currently, FUMCSMhelps amultitude of charities and organizations thatare both secular and non-secular. For seniors, it offers programs like the Upward Bound House as well as annual free check-ups for blood screenings and an annual flu clinic. For children, it has a number of youth study and care programs as well as an extremely active choir. It alsohas preschool classes and bible study classes for children, teensand adults.
