Founded in 1971, Dauphin Island Sea Lab is a marine science education and research laboratory. The laboratory is located in Dauphin Island, Ala., and provides graduate, summer college and teacher education programs. It also offers programs for students in grades kindergarten through 12. It has a campus spread over an area of more than 30 acres. Its library offers more than 7,000 books and 150 journals for faculty and students. The library offers access to online catalogs and maintains a database on ecology and geology. Its campus also offers recreational facilities, including volleyball and basketball courts and a swimming pool. Its campus includes research and training facilities, housing apartments and a cafeteria. It also organizes number of seminars and discussions on oceanography and marine sciences.
