Overview of The Womens CenterFounded in 1979, the mission of The Womens Center is to promote the individual and collective empowerment of the diverse community of women and girls in the Triangle.The Womens Center serves over 4, 500 individuals from Orange, Durham, Chatham and Wake counties each year. Utilizing a small staff and a network of dedicated volunteers, we strive to provide an atmosphere of trust and acceptance.The Womens Centers services and programs are funded in part by the Triangle United Way, the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Orange County. Funding also comes from the state of North Carolina. The Womens Center depends on individual contributions, program fees, and special events such as Tea with Lee and Through Womens Eyes, by Womens Hands.Many of The Womens Centers services and programs are free, and those with fees are available on a sliding scale basis. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
