Erlanger Healthcare System is a nonprofit, academic teaching center affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Erlanger is also a level one trauma center for adults and the only provider of tertiary care services for the citizens of a the four-state region that encompasses southeast Tennessee, north Georgia, north Alabama and western North Carolina. Erlanger handles the treatment of cancer, high-risk obstetrics and heart disease. It offers facilities that include the LifeForce Air Ambulance, the T. C. Thompson Childrens Hospital, the Miller Eye Center and a kidney transplant center. Erlanger works with the Chattanooga unit of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and is an extension of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, which works to provide medical education through a combination of academic and clinical training programs.
