A relative newcomer to Alameda, Havana Cuban Cuisine opened its doors in 2007. If the island-bright lime and turquoise decor doesn't put you in a vacation frame of mind, count on the Cuban music and the mojitos to do so. Havana offers a full menu from appetizer through dessert, featuring tapas such as ceviche and crab cakes and entrees such as plaintain-crusted halibut, chicken adobo, marinated bistec and tamarind-glazed pork ribs. Besides the mojitos -- 15 varieties of them, with dark and light rums -- Havana boasts a full bar, with lots of stools and high-table seating. The active bar is screened off from the quieter restaurant tables in the rear, so the bar crowd can watch sporting events while restaurant patrons enjoy intimate dinner conversation. On Friday and Saturdays, the bar stays open till midnight, providing a rare late-night venue in sleepy Alameda.
