Named for the 18th century theologian Jonathan Edwards, Edwards Church in the Saxonville section of Framingham dates back to 1827. TheSaxonville Religious Society had formedtheChurch as a Trinitarian congregation. In 1957,Edwards Church, along with many Congregational churches,voted to become part of the United Church of Christ. Today, the church is under the spiritual direction of the Rev. Dr. Deborah Clark. In 2000, Edwards Church voted to become an Open and Affirming Congregation. A worship service is held Sunday at 10am. The active church creates quilts for children in foster care and veterans in VA Hospitals. It also works closely with Pathways Family Shelter in Framingham and a Place to Turn food pantry in Natick. Other outreach programs include collecting eyeglasses for the Lions Club, collecting supplies for military personnel serving in Iraq and helping families in need during the holiday season. Youth and adult groups have also participated in domestic and international outreach programs and worked with theInternational Heifer Project. Edwards also has potluck suppers, book groups, men's and women's groups, Bible study, coffee hours and youth programs.
